Cancer
Towards Cancer cure
Better late than never
"When a patient is told that he is suffering from this disease a chill runs through his spine. It is considered to be the most dreadful disease of all. Cancer is a disease in which the cells start proliferating very fast and leads to a lump or tumor formation. It is not associated with any bacteria or virus, which many people fear of.
It is a non-communicable disease
The use of tobacco, alcohol, spices, chronic irritation, human papiloma virus (HPV), dietary habits and life style, and genetic factors play a role in cancer. In the last decade there has been lot of improvement in the treatment of cancer. The targeted chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, Intensity modulated
Radiotherapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), conservative surgical approaches, Bone marrow transplant etc have increased the cure rates sparing the side effects. These newer techniques have started sparing the normal body cells which leading to less toxic treatment and better tolerance by patient. We have heard many times that 'cancer is curable if detected early' but now- a-days we are seeing increased cure rates in even higher stages of disease.” says Dr Kinjal R jani, MD consultant Radiation oncologist, CBCC @ Apollo Hospital.
